According to the Hollywood Reporter, the megahit series ‘Squid Game’ will be turned into a real-life game with 456 contestants battling for a massive cash reward of $4.56 million USD.
Netflix is going to develop a real-life ‘Squid Game’ series called ‘Squid Game: The Challenge,’ according to the media site. Although the competitors will not be risking their lives, there will be 456 participants who will compete in a variety of games for a monetary reward.
According to Netflix, “the payoff is the greatest lump-sum cash reward in TV history, and the show also features the largest competition series ensemble ever assembled.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reality show will have ten episodes and is currently accepting applications at squidgamecasting.com for people interested in taking part in the challenge.
Meanwhile, K-netizens are not reacting as positively to the announcement as the program had hoped, with many claiming that it undermines the original series’ goal. They said things like
“Wasn’t the show criticizing how rich people take advantage of poor people’s need/want for money to make money for themselves?
“Uhmm, so they just completely missed the idea of the show then. But, also like a youtuber already did this.”
Many non-k-netizens are also excitedly anticipating the reality show as they look forward to the intensity the original drama series carries.
