Many of Nam Joo Hyuk’s classmates and teachers spoke out in support of the actor in an exposé.
On June 5, Dispatch published an exposé in which 20 of Nam Joo Hyuk’s former classmates and teachers came forward to refute bullying allegations made by another media outlet and a tipper. The report went on to include comprehensive statements from the pupils and teachers who had interactions with the actor.
On that day, in response to the claim that Nam Joo Hyuk was a bully, one alumni member stated, “I don’t think there was a situation of that sort in our school.” The students who were skilled at studying gathered here, as did the kids who liked athletics. Simply having fun with like-minded friends. So was Nam Joo Hyuk, and so was I.” “The punishment was tough and strict at school,” remarked his peers from his second and third years in the same class. There would have been a riot if the teacher had known about the event and that he was continually bothering someone.”
“Nam Joo Hyuk was someone who would say, ‘Guys, let’s be quiet,’ when the kids were talking over the teacher,” his old homeroom teacher remarked. He was a peacemaker who would say, ‘Let’s not quarrel.'” Concerning the incident surrounding sparring and forced payment, a classmate stated that something similar occurred at school, but Nam Joo Hyuk did not participate.
Finally, the first grade homeroom instructor told the news organization, “I’m willing to jeopardize my teacher’s reputation. It was a time when corporal punishment was still used, and even female teachers carried rods. Teachers received rods created by mothers. Bullying did not exist, at least not at the time I was teaching.”
